Socio-cultural analysis of sport
Steve Jackson is a Professor specialising in the socio-cultural analysis of sport, media and cultural studies. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (B.A. Hons) and the University of Illinois (M.S., PhD). In addition to his post at Otago Steve has served as a Visiting Professor at Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic), the University of Jyvaskyla (Finland), the University of British Columbia (Canada) and the National Taiwan Normal University. Steve's research focuses on globalisation, national identity and the media. He has published a number of books including: (1) Globalization, Sport and Corporate Nationalism: The New Cultural Economy of the New Zealand All Blacks (Peter Lang) (2) Sport, Beer, and Gender: Promotional Culture and Contemporary Social Life (Lang), (3) Sport and Foreign Policy in a Globalising World (Routledge), (4) Sport in Aotearoa/New Zealand Society (Thomson-Nelson), (5) Sport, Culture and Advertising: Identities, Commodities and the Politics of Representation (Routledge), (6) Sport Stars: The Politics of Sporting Celebrity (Routledge).
